How to Detect Water Line Leaks
A water leak is not only a problem for the environment, but it is also a problem for you. Even a small leak from a faucet or toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water a year, which you pay for on your water bill. At Plumb Doctor LLC in Canton, GA, we know that people like to be environmental. However, saving money is often more important. With water line repair, you can have both! First, you need to find out if you have a leak.
Find Your Meter
Turn off all the faucets and make sure no one is using the water in your home and then go to your meter. Most meters have a leak detector. If yours doesn't, check the numbers on your meter and leave all the water in your home off for an hour. When you come back, if the number has changed, you have a leak.
Indoors or Outdoors
You will need to determine if the leak is indoors or outdoors. Simply shut off the main water valve to the home. This valve may be located outside, in the garage, or in the basement, usually near an outdoor water faucet. Once the water is shut off, you can determine if the leak is inside or not. If the leak monitor moves or the reading changes in an hour, your leak is outside. If nothing changes, your leak is inside.
Whether indoors or outdoors, you need to hire someone to provide water line leak repair in Canton, GA. Call a professional plumber and have them find the leaks you can't see. The only exception is a leaky faucet, which may offer an easy repair. Oftentimes, a leak in the faucet is caused by a faulty washer. Turn off the main water valve, find the washer and replace it with a new one. If you don't have any experience in changing out a rubber gasket, you may also hire someone to do it for you.
